'91 Cherokee Trans

I'm having a problem. When under a load it "Bucks"
like an old mule.Figure it needs a rebuild.Any ideas
as to how expensive this is?

A rebuild will usually run around 700 if you take the trans out and install. The bucking could be engine related make sure it is the trans before installing a rebuild. What speeds does it act up and and does it act up in all the gear ranges?

Seems mostly about 25-30.Sometimes if I take my
foot off gas to coast.Thanks for the info.

Sounds like the TCU might be shot. The AW4 goes into "maunual" when that happens - almost like towing a battleship right?

Try this: Start off in 1st. Then when you reach what you think is another shift point then put it into 2nd. If it doesnt buck then you know that the TCU is shot and not the tranny. You get the TCU at any junk yard for cheap.

Located up under the dash on th passenger side. Little box.
