What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
Having a GC coilover kit with Tokicos is ok. If your shocks blow, you just replace the shocks.
What about full coilovers, like Tein or NEX, with the built-in shocks. What happens when they wear out? Do you have to replace the entire coilover? |

Re: What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
A good set will be rebuildable. Not sure about those brands specifically though. But this is a valid concern.
A major reason I am hesitant to run these on a daily driver. I know with the shocktech and JIC setups, they pretty much assume theyre going on a race car and will be torn down and rebuilt somewhat frequently. I dont think they would take my 35k miles per year very well. The tiens or nexs might be better, assuming they were made with the street car in mind. I honestly dont know enough about them.

Re: What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
when i bought my teins ss dampers that the first thing i was concerned about. however, they and even the basic dampers are FULLY rebuildable. not sure how much it costs and i dont even want to know. however they are fucking badass and i would defiantly buy them again. not sure if you remember 95gsxracer but i asked you a while ago about this thumping noise i woud hear when under acceleration at low speeds. at first i thought it was that i had the car so low that the spring was actually so lose that it woudl jiggle around when accerlarating at low speeds. but about a week ago i was chaning my oil and dropped a new quart of oil on my sparkplugs (which pissed me off and i grabbed my strut tower bar and started pullin on it) and found that it was my rre front strut bar hitting the stock speedometer cable holder. i never pulled on the damn bar so hard before that so i didnt know it was rubbing. haha

Re: What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
Sweet fix
Good to know they are rebuildable, even if it costs an arm and a leg. There must be some poeple now with DSMs and Tiens geting up there in the mileage, that information about longevity and rebuild cost will probably be coming out soon enough.

Re: What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
good info. I'll have to be extra careful with that FMIC though once I drop my car. It would SUCK if anything got twisted/bent if I didnt take a dip the right way.

Re: What to do when true coilover shocks wear out?
I've personally posted about this repeatedly. Try searching coilover or spring and use my user name to narrow it down to only posts made by me. If you do that properly and dont find the answer to your question I'll eat a whole plate of donkey biscuits. Its not that I'm lazy, just that I'd rather fist myself than type all that out again.
