Question blower fan trouble 99 Grand Am

Blower fan went out on my 99 Grand Am SE. Anywhere to get how to diagrams on putting in a new one? Still cold here, is not pleasant without heat while driving.....lol. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Re: blower fan trouble 99 Grand Am

How did the fan act when it went out? Did it start by losing one fan speed and then another until it only worked on high or did it go out all at once? If the former is the cause you will need a blower motor resistor along with the new fan. The fan should be located under the dash on the passenger side. Remove the three bolts that hold it in place and remove the fan. The resistor is right next to the fan. If the fan went all at once then just replace the fan. If you have to replace the resistor then it should come out after the fan is removed. If you decide to replace it yourself then you may want to remove the passenger seat to allow you extra room to get to it.

I had the fan go out one speed at a time till only high works.
Do I need a new fan and resistor? Where can I get a good price
on these parts?

Another common problem in the Grand Am. Mine went too. I had to pay to have it replaced because that part wasn't under warranty.

It's pretty sad when you come here and read new threads and 80% of the time it's already happened to you.

I swear I'll never own another Grand Am as long as I am alive!

You only need the resistor. It depends on where you buy it. The dealer charges about $30 bucks while some of the other aftermarket stores now have it for around $25. Autozone does not have it anymore but try Napa or O'reilly.
