92-95 sirII EG or 96-00 sirII EK in 98 ex

I have a 98 ex and want to put an sir II in it, but theres the 92-95 and 96-00 sirII. I am wondering because I don't see many 96-00 if any and lots of 92-95 for pretty cheap. Also i have been hearing that you can't put an older OBD in your car. What is my 98 ex and what is the 92-95 sir II?

Thanks

if you have to get your car inspected then most likely you have to have an engine newer than the car or the same year, and have to have the ECU and all equipment that the car that originally came with the engine had.

a SIR2 is a OBD1 B16A swap with a hydro tranny, would work for you with some wiring but not if you have to get it inspected, the swap you need is the B16A2 from the new SI's because they are OBD2.

92-95OBD1 96-(00 I think) OBD2

emissions, and I know some states do visual inspections and if the engine is from a car older than yours it is illegal and if itns original equipment iut has t have original equipment for (I think) a usdm setup. I dont think you can put JDM swaps into the car if it has to be referee'd, youll have to get more info from someone whos dealt with it before though because I dont even have to worry about emissions where I live

they have OBD2-1 and OBD0-1 harnes conversions, so you can run an OBD1 setup in your car, Im not sure what all else is entaild with the swap aside from the harness, maybe no other custom work, and maybe some other wiring but Ive never done it or dont know anyone who has so I couldnt tel you that for sure either.

I think it varies by state. Here in Arizona, my car with the 2nd gen b16 passed the visual. Here they just popped open the hood and took a peak and then shut it. A lot of people around here are really nice though. Then again I don't think they knew the difference between a JDM motor and a stock one. I guess the extra cam didn't give it away....

Re: 92-95 sirII EG or 96-00 sirII EK in 98 ex

must not be that strict there, cuz I was talking to a kid with a CRX down in cali on vacation, he has a B16A3 out of a sol, and he cant get his car to pass emissions til he gets a USDM P30 ECU, because he has to have original equipment from the car that the drivetrain came out of. and they actually look at the ECU and make sure, but cali is one of the most strict states from what Ive heard...

up here you have to have your emissions tested every 2 years or something like that but the county I live in is excluded, not sure how many counties around here are like mine...

alright thanks guys. I live in kansas, we don't have emission controls or anything hear as far as i have ever seen. I am just gonna go with the 92-95 and use the conversion harness. That will work for me if not ohh well.

Thanks again
