The S2000 was on Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 2000 through 2002 and 2004. Its engine won the International Engine of the Year award in the "1.8 to 2 liter" size category for five years from 2000 through 2004.

why ask?

why ask? we all know its hot. Apparently Road & Track thinks so too, it beat out the "Almighty" viper in a sports car shoot out. props to honda for making a car that outtclasses vehicles costing three times as much!

Re: Poll: Honda S2000 - Hot or Not?

The most power per liter out of any car in the world, if memory serves me correctly. WAY HOT looks as well. My friend and I were having a debate over which was hotter, BMW's Z3 or the S2000, S2000 HANDS DOWN imo.!!!

If you are talking about the M roadster than you may have read that wrong or something. The M roadster is in a totally different league than the S2000. Now the Z3 is closer to the S2000 category than the M roadster.

This doesn´t mean the Bimmer doesn´t have its strong suits. With 240 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, its 3.2-liter DOHC straight-six was once again the most potent engine in the group, an advantage augmented by short gearing to generate the best acceleration times right across the board: 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds, 0 to 100 in 14.6, about the same as in our last test and far quicker than any of the others. Just as important, the Bimmer´s robust midrange punch reduced passing exposure times to a bare minimum and made it easy to cruise without shifting. Who needs an automatic with torque like this?
It did not come in second place in performance it was 2nd place over all. That includes value for the price, gas mileage, trunk space etc, yes the S2000 costs a lot less and therefore is a better value for the cost. The fact is that the M Roadster would destroy the S2000 in any kind of race.

so?

i figured overall is really all that mattered when we start talking magazine road tests. besides, i know an s2g could trump the M in a few areas, handling and breakin included. now i have to find that article

I like the S2000, but it only wins its shootouts because it is pitted against more expensive cars. They put it against the 350Z, Mustang Mach 1, and some audi(meh) and it came in 3rd. It had the 2nd best track time, but the 3rd best 1/4 mile and it didn't get the worst review for day to day driving.

And the only way it could come out on top of the viper is price, and gas mileage.(And if you can afford a Viper, you don't care about the S2K's value. The viper handles better, accelerates better, and will put you into the 11's, stock(all of that torque will let you drive in 3rd all day long. The S2K can barely be broken into the 13's on its best days(and on those days, its competition would run better, aswell)

It does sound amazing while going through the gears, but I would be all over a STi, Evo or 350Z(better yet, '04 Cobra) for the same price, though.

one more thing

it also beat the viper because of the gearbox. just about ever car mag i've ever read said the s2k has THE best production 6 speed ever. better than ferrari, viper, so on, and so forth. and just for the record, i'd take the s2k over the viper without hesitation
