99 cougar.. please help!
I recently purchased a keyless remote for my '99 Cougar off eBay and i followed the instructions that came with it for programming EXACTLY. For some reason it doesn't work and I can't figure out why.. any guesses? Also, I've gone back and read every thread in here on every keyless remote programming instructions but they're all the same and none of them work. I'm so frusterated! The whole point of buying a remote off eBay was to save money, and if I have to go to a dealership it will defeat the whole purpose. PLEASE HELP!

Re: 99 cougar.. please help!
Did your car origanally have keyless entry? Get your VIN # and call a dealer and ask them. If not, it's not going to work no matter how many times you try.

I took my cougar to the local stealership and he got out the book to program it. Well, for some reason their book was wrong. I took it home after leaving the mechanic stumped and played with it for a while. I did the key turn thing and pushed buttons. In about 3 minutes I had it working. Don’t ask how many times I turned the key, I don’t remember. Oh, the doors never locked and unlocked… at least until I pushed the button the remote.

Re: 99 cougar.. please help!
if the car didn't come from the factory with an Electronic Security Module that was 'configured' for keyless remote, then I was told it couldn't have one. In the process of having the ESM replaced, the dealer 'upgraded' mine to the keyless option, then programmed it for me. Sounded silly to me but I'm not surprised at anything Detroit does these days.
