airbag removal

I need to know how to remove the airbag from the center of the steering wheel to replace my horn button. I tried to just pull on it but did not want to damage anything so I didn't pull that hard. Is there any tabs that I have to push in or anything like that? Any info would help
thanks in advace

Re: airbag removal

Might be worth looking into a Haynes manual.

Or at least telling us what year truck you've got.

Re: airbag removal

if you turn the steering wheel 90 degrees from center, there should be able to access a slot on the back, you need to stick a screw driver in the slot to release the tab, turn wheel another 180 degrees to do the same on other side, should be able to tilt bag forward to disconnect wires and then remove bag assembly, might want to pull the air bag fuse first to be safe

Re: airbag removal

yes, pull the airbag fuse first! You don't want an accidental setoff. Unless you like to pay hospital bills!

Re: airbag removal

Pull the fuse and WAIT FIFTEEN MINUTES for the backup power source to drain, otherwise it could still go off, imagine the speed a phillips screwdriver will achieve if it is hit by the bag

Re: Re: airbag removal

I'd reccomend disconnecting the battery and waiting 15 minutes instead of just taking out a fuse, you want to know FOR SURE you have no power when wokring on an airbag.
