3000gt SL FWD Transmission prob

I just bought a 3000gt and I already have some problems, the transmission fluid was burnt and the car wouldn't move. I changed the fluid and the filter, then the car drove fine for about 4 hours then it wouldn't move. The car will drive in reverse, but it won't move in any other gear, like d, L, or 2. Some friends of mine told me to get the tranny flushed, I just wanted to know if I should just go ahead and buy a new transmission since the flush is gonna cost 150, and it might not fix it. Please help me, the car is just sulking in my driveway

Re: 3000gt SL FWD Transmission prob

Don't bother with the flush...I had the same exact problem where it wouldn't go in drive but would go into reverse (it's the 1st gear somethin or another)...the flush ($150) fixed it for about 2 days, then I ended up buying a transmission (and converting to 5-speed manual). So save your money..

You were doing neutral drops weren't you?

I don't even know what a neutral drop is, but thanks for the advice I think I may go transmission shopping. I also have another question when I was changing my fluid I noticed the number on my transmission is W4A32, I thought the transmission for my car was supposed to be F4A33

Re: 3000gt SL FWD Transmission prob

WTF? that's the DSM AWD transmission for auto Eclipses...someone must have welded the VCU and slapped it in there before you owned it. Or maybe they didn't weld the VCU and that's why it doesn't work. Yeah it's supposed to be the F4A33. All I can say is good luck on this one.

DSM VCU's arent in the trans, all you have to do is put a VCU eliminator on it and its fine. Basicly just stop the output shaft from moving and it becomes a FWD car.

Re: 3000gt SL FWD Transmission prob

if you can disable the output shaft and make it a fwd cant you also make it a rwd?

i have been thinking..... is it hard to do a auto to manual swap? i know about the extra pedals and stuff but does this not affect the ecu in any way?

Re: 3000gt SL FWD Transmission prob

RWD would be harder in an ecplise than FWD, and im not exactly sure how you would do it. In a 3S you can weld the VCU, please dont do this to a good VCU, or you can take out the VCU and weld the planitary gears in the trans that split off the front and back. Then remove the front axles.
