#@!&!...Please help me!! 91 wont start.

Hi, my name is tom, and I'm new to the forum (obviously!) I have a 91 Ranger which I dig very much. Until today. I was driving along and out of nowhere (seemingly) the truck died. After getting it to a safe spot, I tried over and over, but no start. I finally called a tow truck. He did'nt have any luck starting it either. The truck turns over with no prob. The plugs are not wet and fouled, and I tested the #2 plug and it does have spark. I'm throwing my hands in the air, what gives? When you turn the key on, you can hear the fuel pump go on. After reading thru past threads from this forum I also tried wiggling the ground terminal of my battery, as well as cleaned up the posts. Any suggestions? Words of wisdom? Thanks in advance for any help and comments!
tomz.

You need to specify the motor you have. This would make finding a solution alot easier. Do you have a 2.9 litre?

Whoops, forgot to mention the motor! Not sure about the litre, but it is a 4 cyl. if that helps. Also forgot to mention the tow driver recommended checking the little red button, fuel pump shut off switch by the passengers feet. It was depressed, as I believe it should be. Everydays an adventure with a 14 year old truck!

could be several problems, but the easist,is to replace the fuel filter. should be on the frame just ahead of the fuel tank. they should be replaced every year or so. I replace mine every 25,000 mi. hope this helps. later,,Mark.

Well, unfortunately, its not the fuel filter. Just got a brand new one in and still nothing (except a quickly getting tired battery.) Any-more suggestions before this sucker goes to the shop? Thanks for all the help thus far...

Your problem is most likely the control modual. It is usually called an EEC control modual. I don't know where it would be on your 4 cylindar. Is your motor distributorless? It should be located in that area. I'm not completely sure, but if you are getting spark, gas and it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't; then this might be your problem.

Thanks! I'm getting a book tomorrow, so I'll look up the location of the EEC control modual. If thats the deal I'm in good shape. Thank you!
