Catalytic Converter

My freind says his 89 Rx7 has three catalytic converters i am just wondering if this is true, also he says if he removes them he will get 60 hp gained

if it is NA it has 3, if it is a TII it has 2... but adding an aftermarket exhaust with no cats will gain about 40-45 on a NA and about 55-60 on a TII... but with the stock exhaust removing the cats isn't going to do much I don't think

the car wont gain much unless they're clogged, and it will make the engine run better/healthyer, but might cause a lack of backpressure wich will keep the 5th and 6th port to open if the car is a 84-88
