'94 ESC Sensor

I have searched the forums for my problem but have not found what I am looking for. I am having all the symptoms that the others have described, after warm up it misfires and/or hesitates under load but clears up around 2k rpms. I get a code 228 on the Snap-On computer on my 1994 w/ Z engine. The computer describes code 228 as an "ESC sensor". I have replaced fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, button, and ignition module. You're right I'm "chasing". It can't hurt it has 157k. My main question is what and where is the ESC sensor and/or module? I told the mechanic at my work that this forum had said the ESC sensor and knowck sensor were the same thing but he disagreed. Also do you think I should replace the coil? I would appreciate any information on this.

Scratch my last post. I finally gave up and took the truck to a shop and after 7 hours of labor they found that I had replaced the original bad spark plug wire with new wires that were bad right out of the box. I wish I could stick the huge repair bill right up AutoZone's ace. A 19.99 set of wires cost me and whole new ignition system replacement and a shop bill. Who would have guessed.

go back to autozone, my i suggest for the last time, and explain to management how their faulty product cauzed you xxx in auto repair bills, you want nothing for free, just to tell them they have lost a once loyal customer for this

Back in the early 70's I had that problem.

In the late 60's I had a 67 Chevy SS 396, was having trouble with a miss in it, only when you really put your foot into it, replaced wires, sparkplugs, points, condenser, distributor cap, rotary button, coil and it kept right on missing, especially when you would get down on it hard, easing a long it would run perfect not missing a beat.

Had a friend who was a very knowledgeable mechanic, asked him about this, told him what all I had done.

He did a compression check on it, no problems here, them got in the car and said lets take a ride.

We did, he said carburetor, that is what it is, of course I said ouch!

Ordered me a brand new Rochester quad jet.

When it came in I put it on, it was doing the same thing, ugh!

I put another set of plugs in it and points and such to be sure, but did not help.

So I kept thinking, finally I went and bought another set of plug wires, different brand, put them on, the car ran perfect.

I have hear of several getting new plug wires and they are no good right out of the box.

Sure was a costly fix, but it sure did make me happy that my 396 was performing perfect again.

Trial and error was expensive them, but not near what it is today!

yeah i would say a new 4 berral is expencive lol
