Sputtering problem

Yo guys......300ZXTT sputtering bad at idle......missing as driving...I can tell when mashing down the throttle its still got the ass behind it. I replaced the injector clips (plugs) Soldered em in shrink wrap the whole 9 yards. I noticed the coil pack plugs are needed to be next. While running the car I removed the coil pack plugs 1 at a time to see if I could hear a drop in power.......Well the one in the back on the passenger side made no difference and the 2 in the back on the drivers side made no difference. I checked the spark and it looks a bit weak and swap some coil packs around and made no difference. Was thinking maybe the 3 that seem to have issues were tied together somehow...????? Suggestions?

Thanks again.

E.Honda

Anyone know who E Honda is/was?

Motor has only 40k on it....Correction from my last statement....closest to the firewall on the passenger side.....and the middle one on the drivers side. Idle is not jumping......Just has a miss....I found a loose ground and thought that was it. No dice......not the problem.

Re: Sputtering problem

you maybe getting spark to the plugs but as you said before it may not be a big enough charge. This sounds more like a wireing issue. Had something simaler in the shop last week with a Sable. Turned out to be the harness was grounding out, killing the signal to the last 2 cylinders on the right bank.

Re: Sputtering problem

mines coughing i guess sputtering would fit, only at idle too ... could it be due to the head gasket leak?

Power Transistor Unit...

this is where it is at... http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi

there was a recall on it in for the earlier Z32's....i dont know if yours would fall under it or not. but it is probably not the problem...unless the harness is just loose. usually when the PTU goes bad or isnt connected the car just dies and wont restart or just acts like it had no power what-so-ever.

I thought about that myself......I know what the part is now. I had to replace it when I put the motor in.....It was the one that was in the car...The one on the JDM motor I bought was bad. I checked into the recall a few months back and was told by the dealer my car was covered. I called Nissan and they said it's not......Go figure. Possible to have had leaku o-rings and burn the piston on those 2 cylinders?....I had that happen to a car as a teenager...Guess I will change the coil pack plugs next...But then again that would not make the spark weak. Hmmmm

Re: Sputtering problem

as far as spark goes all it could be is ptu, coil packs, coilpack connectors, or your plugs.
