i just noticed my engine light came on and my RPMs are dying when not giving gas. I stopped the car and looked under the hood, it seemed gas was not reaching the engine as the rpms kept dying, the car doesnt stall or anything though. My dad said he just filled the car with 91 octane to clean the valves before giving it to me, and i think this might be the problem. Its a 89 civic dx, it has no tach but i could tell the Rpms go out by listening. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: RPM dies, engine light on
i don't think 91 octane would cause that, it could be a number of things though. Check fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors, and make sure you are getting a good spark. hopefully you'll find the prob there. I'd check fuel filter first just cause it's a fairly easy job that couldn't hurt anything and if it fixes it your done.

Re: RPM dies, engine light on
Also, my best guess would prob. be injectors. And if it's not a fuel prob. then it's going to either de you dizzy, or a sensor
