engine getting hot

I have a friend with a 1993 honda accord that gets close to the red line. Change the fan motor and check the temperature swithch. Only cools down when the other fan kick on at high speed. What could be causing it to run hot at normal drive conditions? The thermostat is working.

Re: engine getting hot

Have you checked the coolant level? Also have you checked to make sure that the cooling system has no leaks? If the system has any leaks and cannot hold pressure than the boiling point of teh coolant lowers and it will not cool the motor near as well. One of the first things I would check if the coolant level is fine is the radiator cap, also how long has the coolant been in the car (when was it last changed)?
