New Toon design--98 Cobra

This was my hardest one yet.
Owner wanted me to match the air brush work on his car.
There was a cobra image faded into the black/purple pearl hood stripe and
the background is made from the cobra image painted on the underside of the hood.

Tried to add more darker shading and white flare reflectionsthis time

Re: New Toon design--98 Cobra

Looks really good! I love the cobra in the background. Just a tip: pay attention to reflections, and what's reflecting what. Right now you have blue on the rims where it's supposed to be reflecting the ground.... unless the ground is blue. Keep up the great work though, I'm just nitpicking.

Re: New Toon design--98 Cobra

Looks great!

I'm a firm believer that a toon isn't bound by the laws of reality....that's what makes it a toon.

many times I will leave something that is incorrect in the "real world" on my toon. It's funny because people will look 2, 3, 4 times and not really pick up what's different, but love the piece because it held their eye. Many purists will employee similar tricks across all areas of art.....what makes your's stand out from the crowd?

Now all that being said I still think it's a great piece. You are improving rapidly. Keep it up.

Re: New Toon design--98 Cobra

Thanks.

I am a little confused by the comment about the blue on the rims. My reference books show that a blue sky reflection would show
in the bottom of the dished mag wheel and the earth tone colors would appear on the top inside of the rim.

That's why I put the blue tint on the inside bottom surrounding the white sun reflection flares.
The upper earth tone reflections were not used because of the fender line shadow.

Alex--can you explain some more about where you would put the sky reflections on my wheels?
I want to get my chrome/polished rim images to look better. Thanks.

Just a guess but I think these spots in particular:

Now argueably the top half of that curve may catch some of the sky as it isn't a flat surface, but I don't think the blue would fall down as far a you have indicated, but then again a cartoon is an exaggeration to a certain degree.

To help your chrome pop try adding a hint of your dark blue, maybe some black. Styilize...you will emerge.

Just my opinion.

Very nice!! I suggest that you add more tire and rim detail next time, for even more perfection.

Re: New Toon design--98 Cobra

Lemorris--thanks, chrome/polished Alumy is still my bane!

I was thinking rim and not spokes. Urrgh!
I'll try dark blue/black to highlight the chrome.
I just have not found the right style for me in detailing this area.

Ran--thanks, wheel and tire details are a weak area for me.

I'm just happy when I get my ellipses to look balanced.
Time to go back into the reference books and pic for more practice.
