timing belt

So on my 88 accord i applied acutal tension to the timing belt can there be too much tension to do damage? What is the best way to put tension on the system. (please be specific)

Re: timing belt

What i recomend is with the belt on loosen the tensioner so it applies tension on the belt. Then turn the crank counter clockwise a few teeth so it takes the slack out of the rest of the bet and then tighten the tensioner.
