Re: Dial-up splitter
All it does is pause your Dial-Up connection for up to 30 second, After 30 seconds it will disconnect your Dial-Up.

Re: Dial-up splitter
I had one. People calling rang through to you instead of getting a busy signal. You can't dial out while you are online though. You gotta have call waiting too for it to work.

Re: Dial-up splitter
They're functionally worthless for the purpose you want to use them for and are a costly mistake. Your more practical and effective solution would be to get broadband like everyone else.

Re: Dial-up splitter
Something I always like better was a program I had back in the day when I had dial-up (5-6 years ago) and it would act like caller ID and a little box would show up telling who was calling and ask if you'd like to disconnect to take the call or have them leave a voice mail message. It worked very well and at the time it only cost like $10 so now it's prolly free. I don't remember the name of the product though...

Re: Dial-up splitter
A lot of dialup/phone companies offered an incoming call service like that. Usually the software wasn't too expensive (or provided by the company), but a lot of times it either involved an additional fee every month or it was something that the company had to support for you to be able to use it with their service. Call-waiting usually had to be activated on your phone service as well for this to work.
That fad is over with now, so the software and support isn't as readily available. Most people who want to have their phone available while surfing just get broadband since it's more affordable now than it used to be.
