Re: speedometer cable driven or sensor

Welcome to the forum. Your speedometer is driven by a cable and a gear. Hope that helps.

I removed instrument panel to get to speedometer cable, no cable or cable connection. So if it is digital what would cause the speedometer & odometer to suddenly stop working when the rest of the instruments still work? Thanks, William

Re: speedometer cable driven or sensor

I am very sorry I thought that GM didn't use the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) on Grand am's prior to 89. I was misinformed. I just looked it up and you do infact have a speed sensor and that would most likely be the cause. Good Luck.
