4G63 Internals

I have a really stupid question that I couldnt find searching. How much different are the internals from the 4G63 N/T then the 4G63 T and if there really different how much boost could the stock 4G63 handle.

the diffrence? the N/A 4g63's have no oil squirters, diffrent compression and diffrent cams.

Re: 4G63 Internals

i'm guessing you're asking how much overall horsepower the stock 4g63 can handle, you just asked it in the question of boost. you can't really measure a set boost level on the 4g63, because it could be able to handle 35 psi of boost on a certain turbo, and only be able to handle 25 psi of boost on a different turbo.

a better way to ask the question would be how much horsepower can the stock 4g63 handle?
the stock 6-bolts have been known to handle 500+ hp.

now if you're asking about the boost level a 4g63 can handle with a specific turbo, then we need to know what turbo you have before we can answer that question.

Re: 4G63 Internals

You wont be able to run much boost on a 4g63NA since it has high compression pistons. The 4g63T has much lower compression then the NA. A 4g63NA is 9.2:1, where a 4g63 is 7.8:1 (on the 1g's, might be different on 2g's). Therefore if you put a stock 1g DSM turbo on the NA version at the same boost, you'd most likely blow you motor sooner then later (if not first time @ full boost). Unless you change your pistons and compression, you would have to set the boost really low. As for the 4g63T having different cams then the NA, i believe the exhaust cam is the different one. It's the same part # at the dealer for the intake cam.

Re: 4G63 Internals

i believe the blocks are the same but the internals are different. if you replaced all the necessary parts with turbo ones, you shouldn't have any problem

Re: 4G63 Internals

How much is that going to cost you? You might be better off finding a low mileage turbo motor. That way everything is there and ready to go, all you have to do is improve on it...just something to consider.

Re: 4G63 Internals

30 to 35 psi is alot for the n/t 4g63. Unless its a misstype.

Re: 4G63 Internals

shit i guess you didnt want to read my last post.

unless your running a APG60t, SMC61, T72, FP3052 there is no reasion to build a block to have to withstand 35psi!
i think you got it a little backwards. you build the block to withstand the compression needed to reach your goals with a specific turbo. take me for example. i know i want the SMC61 (650hp) from PTE. I want to run it with little lag and within effeceny island (20-25psi). with that i know i need to increase my stroke to help the displacment to spin the exhaust wheel faster to spool the turbo quicker. i know exactly what injectors i'll need at 12.5-13volts,pistons, head work exc.

Boost is nothing but hot air. your looking for Airflow!! anything ouside Effeceny on a turbo will give you hotter air. i guess im just saying find your goal with HP, and figgure out what you need to get there effecetly. More isn't always better.

Agian N/T 4g63 blocks do not have oil squirters to help lubricate the pistons. that does help oil pressure, but its a trade off. there are plenty of discusions on Dsmtuner about this. some people argue the fact the N/T block is a better block for higher HP#'s. There is no way around the pistons & rods. A big rod (stock 6bolt rods) setup with 2g pistons and some high temp rings with the right head setup will allow you to get 450 crank HP out of your block quite safely if built and tuned correctly.

Re: 4G63 Internals

Unless I'm missunderstanding one or both of you, I think he means he is changing those internals to run 30-35 psi because he has the NT motor, which has pistons that are not only higher CR, but weaker. So he does have to build the motor in this case.
