2000 ford escort zx2 won't come out of park
There is some kind of safety feature keeping it from coming out of park. I bought a manual from Auto Zone, not much in there at all about problem.

Yes, on my girlfriend's Escort, there is a cable that comes from the brake pedal that releases the shift lever when you press the brake. You might want to check that. It runs from the brake pedal somewhere to the shift lever under the plastic console.

you can usually open a small plug near your shifter and stick in a paperclip and release it from park. Not a fix but you can move the car.
