99 Cougar ABS Control Unit

Okay, has anyone out there had their ABS control unit go bad? Some days it works and other days it doesn't. I hear a thump, then the lights either come on or go off.

Is it possible its just the connection?

anything is possible, but I have heard of them going bad.
