91 caprice swap 2 carburated

I have a 91 caprice that is a fuel injected throttle body. I also have a 79 impala frame off project that i had gotted a clean carburated 350 with 50,000 miles on it. I bought everything brand new(edlebrk intake n carb, headers, fuel pump, water pump, dist, chrome everything) well im not gunna use that motor in the impala instead im gunna go with a caddy engine. Anyways i bought this 91 that needed a motor and money is tight with this project so , can i swap my car over 2 carburated ? i know it wont pass emission. what needs 2 b done to make it work? what does the computer controll exactly? I k now the fuel tank sender will have 2 b swapped out for one from a carburated car , but will my gauge still read how much gas i have? ill b switching tranny's as well with a 83 turbo 350 tranny. Will the wires going to the starter, alternator and distributor still work if i change to carburated engine? i know this was long but i really need some help

Why does everyone want to trash a good TBI and add an ancient carb?

There is a reason new stock vehicles don't come with a carb anymore; heck, there's a whole lot of reasons. The only thing you prove when you rip out TBI and throw in a carb that is that you are in fact smarter than your car, but not by much.

I did the same thing to a 1993 carpice. ... . I put a 400 small block in my caprice. It barely fit (where the distributor is/ in the back) so make sure you have a real good distributor so you won't have to pull the motor out again. My distributor just went out and I paid $800. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. You should be able to use that same 700R4 tranny, you will just have to figure out how to engage the lock-up mechinism. To put a th-350 transmission it will be a good idea to install one with a 9'' tail. (that way you don't have to worry about getting a new driveshaft. I had an electric speedometer on my car- this will not work on the 350 transmission. Also the crossmember for the transmission will need to be fabricated. I don't know how much gas i have in my car but I'm convinced that I have the fastest caprice in town. the wires going to the starter are the same. Also you have a electric fuel pump in the gas tank. The best thing to do is to drop the tank and attach a hose inside the tank so your mechanical fuel pump can suck the gas out of the tank. That elecric pump inside the tank pumps at about 16 psi. for a carb, you dont need that much. I'd say about 5-6 psi. another way of doing this is to buy a fuel pressure regulator from the auto parts store. Thats kinda ghetto so I wouldn't recomend that. if you have any other questions email me at [email protected]

Re: 91 caprice swap 2 carburated

The only reason im swaping for a carb engine is cus i have a new one that i was going to use on another project but im putting a different engine in that project, since i have it laying around and i dont have money for a new one and all the accesories n chrome parts ill use what i got.

The seems to make sense. I was probably ranting and raving (I do that a lot). All I'm getting at is that most people undervalue TBI and would rather throw on a carb. The two links I posted on a previous post point out TBI is superior to a carb and a serious alternative to multi-port injection systems. But, if its not port injection, most people hack it off to throw on a carb or port sytem. Anyways, thats my
Hope your engine fulfills your expectations.

Re: 91 caprice swap 2 carburated

The only reason I prefer carburated engines is because its what I'm used to working with. I do however, realize that fuel injection is a much better form of fuel delivery. I'm not to fond of the multiport injection though, but I'm all for TBI. I almost wanted to put one in my '84 sedan, but I wouldn;t know what to do with the two plugs that go into the carb.... it would give me a constant engine code if I just left em hangin.
