Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

I know that they are the same block, as well as the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and LT1. everything is interchangable from the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0, but not sure about the others.

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

I see but the thing is that the 5.3/5.7 differ any someways in favor of the 5.3... The 5.3 is iron block which means more stability. It is also true that you can bore the 5.3 out to make it larger than the 5.7l. They have all the same internals except rod length!!! But the 5.3 can definatley be built ALOT stronger than the LS1 5.7 aluminum block.

but the ideal of it being a reliable, fast, and overal good motor in production apeals to me, more than building a motor myself...and the ls1 is a VERY STRONG motor

You can absolutely change over most of the accessories from your motor to the ls1. The only thing that will be different is one of the accessory brackets, which I think is the alt. bracket. You won't have to get a new pcm, but you will want to get a tune to make use of the power. You also won't have to get another harness.

I think it would be a good swap. The ls1 will definately be alot lighter than the 5.3L. With a cam swap/head work, you will love the power the ls1 will be making in your truck. Why not upgrade to the 6.0L. These motors are pretty much bullet proof, and you can build one to really make some high horsepower numbers. My only concern with the ls1 is the durability issue in a truck application. I've seen several go down after being installed in a truck, so I would question there durability in a heavier application like a truck.

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

Thats basically what i was saying Slow...see what i mean the aluminum block LS1 is great and all but overall you wont be able to do much much more than what Slow is saying to do, heads/cam/and all the little bolt ons would be ok. But an Iron block 4.8/5.3 can be obtain 383CI max, and the iron block 6.0 can obtain a 427CI max. But the biggest parts to all this is that: 1. The strength of the Iron block Vs aluminum 2. The application ease of droping in an iron truck motor(All accessories fit with no modification, Alt.,AC, Powersteering, Waterpump, etc.) 3. The time and effort put into this whole swap just to have a large bore aluminum 5.3l... The 5.3l iron block has the same crank, longer rod length, but just a smaller bore!!! 3.779 (5.3) VS 3.898 (5.7)

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0 all share the same block. Unless this has changed recently, you should be able to bore a 4.8 out to 6.0 specs, if you wanted to that is.

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

Nineball, you can bore the 4.8/5.3 out to 3.905 at max, the 6.0 has a 4.000 bore and can be bored to 4.125 i believe!!!!

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

I'm doing a 5.3 build up myself but im going to bore it out and increase the stroke to make it into a 383 then throw on an sts turbo at 21 psi and 150 shot of nitrous and i should be damn close to 1000hp and ftlbs trq. The pistons that i chose were the lunati forged pistons...my suggestion would be for you to figure out what power goals you are going for first, then decide where to go from there!! Reason being that if you go in this blind folded then it could end up costing you more in the long run!!

Yep...yep... Do it right the first time! BTW, when are you going to get started on that? I have that 4.8L engine sitting in my warehouse that I'm considering doing the same thing to and dropping that sucker in an s10. Let me know how it works out for you.

Re: ls1 into 99 silverado

Its already started...as we speak the heads are at Total engine airflow(stage 2 P&P) , the block i had spun a main and it wasnt stable but i bought a new one, it should be here this week!! The intake manifold is at nitrodaves nitrous outlet getting the direct ports for 2 stage stand alone Nitrous system 50 shot and 100 shot or both. Chuck from flp is working on my 4l80e sometime late March. Then Ill be droping it all in by July. Should make some nice fall track times... Built 383 w/150 shot wet nitrous system...throughout the rest of the year im going to be workin on getting the rear end, and front half shafs and Detroit lockers. So hopefully next year around February or so I should have the STS coming and thats going on at 21psi w/ alky/meth. This EcSb should be damn quick!!! im hoping 9's and i dont care if its 9.999 i just want it. Oh and you'll be hearing alot from me about it lots of vids, pics, and bragging rights to come You know where I'm at usually so I'll see you there or here
