92 Jetta 8v...some questions...

Hello everyone. This is one of the first times Ive posted here. Ive owned 3 VW's. An 84 Rabbit, and 81 Rabbit Diesel, and this new to me, 1992 Jetta.

The problem Im having is with the Jetta. I picked it up a few days ago, it was running rough. Fair enough. This morning I start it up, seems to be running pretty good..then it warms up a little..(about 3 minutes of idling, and a drive around the block).

After I got it to the back, it stuttered, ran like crap, almost stalls when I try to move it, etc..

Ive changed the wires, and will be changing the plugs, cap and rotor before the hour is over.

What should I be looking for next, should the cap, rotor and plugs not fix it. (Im hoping this is a cracked cap...easy fix).

Thanks in advance for any help, as Im fairly new to the VW life.

The most common broblem is cracked ignition coil housing, try spraying it with water & watch for acring.

The idle stabilizer valve (mounted above the valve cover) will become sticky over time. If you remove it and clean it out with carborator cleaner (move the valve open and closed while cleaning) you should be able to solve your problem.
