Re: automatic door locks 96 burb
I have a 96 Z71 and I had a problem with my Keyless Entry Module turning on my dome light in the middle of the night, after I was for sure that everything was off in the vehicle. Turned out the module had a weak relay for the dome light. I removed the module and replaced it's functions with an aftermarket alarm, problem solved. It also allowed me to have remote door locks, as I never had a remote for the truck in the first place. Do your door locks still work fine from the switches in the doors? By automatic, do you mean that when you start the truck, and close the doors, the locks automatically lock? If so, that would be a function of the Keyless Entry Module. Your module is located under a black steel plate that is directly above your gas pedal. Your combination relay for your door locks is also stuffed up there. In order to get it out, it requires a 15mm wrench to get the bolts out and a 7mm socket to get small screws out. The one problem you will have is that when you look above your gas pedal, your Air Bag Module should be staring back at you. It should be clearly defined with YELLOW connectors. No big deal, just disconnect the air bag first, the YELLOW connector for the air bag is directly behind your Digagnostic Link Connector, which is a 16 pin connector above your feet on the drivers side. After you get your Air Bag Module out, the metal plate is what the Air Bag Module lays on, and what the Keyless Entry Module is under. There is another way to access everything, but it involves removing a whole lot more items in order to tip the ENTIRE dash toward the back of the vehicle and out. That is the way you have to go in order to do anything involving the heater core and/or A/C Evaporator. Hope this helps. -Chris
