Whats the difference between a 180SX and a 240SX?

Okay, I'm talking about the 91+ JDM 180SX and the 91-94 240SX. I know that the 180SX onwards came with SR20DET's but is there anything else different? Sorry if I sound like a newbie, its because I am. If they are practically the same, I might consider getting one here (I live in Canada, 15 year importation rule), and as prices for a 240SX up here is not all that great, and if I wanted the SR, I would have to import that too. So I figured that if these two cars are nearly identical, I'd go with the 180SX instead because it would be cheaper, and because of RHD (I like to be different)

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Same car, except for SR and RHD.

Re: Whats the difference between a 180SX and a 240SX?

how else are they different? i really haven't looked that up either. I hope you're not just saying the rear center garnish and the rear windows say '180sx' instead of 240sx... and the front signals are half amber/ half clear... haha...

i'd say they are pretty similar... Suspension parts are interchangeable with the usdm s13 fb and the 180sx... so besides what logik said... they can't be all that different.

you can tell these are in Japan because of the rain gutter caps... they don't exist in America. So like i pointed out.. the rear garnish and front signals are different... along with the engine and obvious rhd... spot anything else? i'd like to know...

Re: Whats the difference between a 180SX and a 240SX?

So...if I were to get a 180SX in like 2 or 3 years, I could use the majority of the aftermarket parts made for the 240SX? (Engine, electronics, suspension...etc?) The only thing I have against the 180SX is that the aftermarket for the SR engine might be a little bit more rare in Canada and costly than say the KA24DE in the 240SX. It'll have to depend on how much money I have and how much an s13 would be in two years. (Parents and insurance....I can get a car and drive when I'm 18. Not necessarily a bad thing, I can learn about how a car works and stuff....build myself a racer in two years than to get a ricer right now )

Regarding the difference in the S14, I somehow like the look of the S13 over the S14, because of the pop-up headlights and the taillights, and that there's a hatchback version. It is more old and looks old, so the people in my school won't exactly remember what it is as they drive newer cars.

Re: Whats the difference between a 180SX and a 240SX?

Most aftermarket parts are for the JDM version because they are made by japanese companies, not many US companies make 240SX parts. And in 2-3 years you'll have the choice because you'll be able to start importing 1993 S14s, so whatever, and btw, RHD in a daily driver is anoying, RHD is a weekend fun car is bitching, and I was ganan import one 2 since it's hard to find one here that's rust-free....

heres the answer to your question?

Who cares if those parts(JDM and USDM) match up? If youre gonna be Joe Cool and have a 180SX....buy the JDM parts made in japan for it? I mean youre buying the car and importing it...soooooooo..go all out on it. RHD would ROCK! if it didnt cost too much i would so convert to RHD! this one kid already told me he would pay $100 to drive around for 1 hour in a RHD...so if i get enough people to pay for a ride maybe ill pay it off...lol now im just being silly

I wouldn't give a damn if I had an unlimited supply of money.

By the time I'm 18 or 19 I'll probably get my own car...but now, no. Insurance in Toronto is WAY too high....its like 4 times than what you would pay in the United States. If I was to insure a 2005 Honda Civic Coupe by myself, it would be around $6000 US a year. That, would be like insuring 2 family sedans, an SUV and a truck in the US. It'll probably be worse if I got the 240sx....insurance companies know how tunable these machines are.

When its summer, I'll try to work and save up. Parents will pay for my insurance, until I'm 20 or until I get into an accident. I do hope that none of the people working for the insurance companies do NOT know that the 180SX is turbocharged from factory, unlike the 240SX....so the insurance would be cheaper

Re: Whats the difference between a 180SX and a 240SX?

-240SX is not factory turboed.

-If they don't know what a 180SX is, they will ask you to go show them or something along those lines, they will get you.

-Insurance doesn't know the 240SX is easy modded, people pay more for Sunfires and Civics.
