98 blazer side mirrors

I have a "jiggly" side mirror and need to troubleshoot. can they be tightened or am I better off replacing both to match. $$ does matter

depends, does just the glass "wiggle" or is it the whole unit?

the whole unit wiggles (exagerated especially at hight speeds)..and if I were to lift up slightly on the whole unit, you can see where the whole unit creates a crack of space between the door portion of the car and the unit. Its not painfully obvious where exactly I would be able to detach the mirror or adjust or tighten.

Hey, thanks for the nice words brotha, I really apprecaite it.

Now to your mirror problem.

There should be an internal plastic trim piece on the inside of the door that you can remove and there should be a nut there that you can tighten.

Yep, yep, thre are 3 nuts that hold the bolts in on the door's pillar right behind the mirror assembly. Lifting the panel of switches on the door is easy if done gently. Use a screwdriver to take out the screw that holds the door handle cover in the interior down, then unbolt the fasteners you will find in the inside arm-rest in the little pocket that you usually tug to shut the door.

Unfasten the lower apholstery panel on the door interior by firmly tugging the bottom out, then lift the door interior panel to disengage it from the door itself. Carefully lower it and let it rest on the ground after popping the inside door release handle through the apholstery - that should give you more than enough clearance to reach the bolts behind the mirror to tighten it up. *IF* the plastic that retains the bolts is broken, leaving the mirror hanging by just one or two bolts (As was in my case) you can glue them together.

Head to O'Reilley's Auto parts, they have a super high strength epoxy formulation rated at 3500 pounds square inch for plastic to metal bonding. It's a two part formulation that sets pretty quickly. Clean all plastic surfaces with detergent and water so they are dirt and grime free. Let it air dry, don't wipe it. Mix the two parts of the resin together and put a dab on the broken ends. Press the ends together for a minute, then let it set for 15 minutes. Mix some more resin to goop around the plastic/bolt on the outside of the joint you just made to further strengthen it. Let it set for an hour. Then, bolt it back on and re-assemble your door. My Mirror's been absolutely wiggle free after that!

thanks for the direction. I removed the door panel as suggested. found the three bolts. they were all tight. So I loosened the whole thing to check it out..nothin seemed broken inside so I retightened the three nuts and overtightened one ..oopps it broke the bolt off..so now I only have two bolts holding it on ... geez. what a day. The power only lets me move the mirror one way anyhow so maybe I'll look into getting a replacement!

you couldnt tell before you took the paneling off, that the mirror was loose from the hinge instead of the mounting bracket?

It seemed loose from the mounting bracket especially compared to the driver side mirror...

I would go on ebay and get a replacement.

They're pretty cheap and will have all the hardware included.

I've looked it up and they are cheap! thanks. $33 with s&H included if you don't want power or heated.
Gonna go look for idler arm threads.
