Question Where is the Governor?!

Hey everyone! Alright I may have a simple or hard question for all you Nissan people out there. Does anyone know where the governor chip is located? For the people who don't know what a governor is, it's a chip that stops you from going over excessive speeds. For example, in my 1993 240Sx SE Fastback, I cannot exceed 115 mph the chip will automatically slow you down. If anyone knows where this chip is located please e-mail me or post it here so that everyone can see how to remove it, thank you!

Re: Where is the Governor?!

I think it's in the speedo because if you unplug the speedo you can go faster.

No..

I think its in the ECU because when you unplug the Speedo the ECU is no longer getting the signal of how fast your going so it thinks your going whatever speed and limits nothign thats my understanding...thanks for holding my hand through the Governor speech noob

Re: Where is the Governor?!

The speed limiter and rev limiter are both controlled via the ECU. The only way to stop either is to interrupt the signal to the ECU, reprogram, or purchase a different ECU.

Re: Where is the Governor?!

Ever wonder why the speed cut goes away and the rev limit is raised when you buy a JWT ECU?

Re: Where is the Governor?!

Alright, so I'm gonna with Nissanfanatic on this one. He says it's in the ECU and that makes alotta sense. But I'm wondering if unplugging the speedometer would really work. But then again, how do people know that their going faster with the speedometer unplugged, wouldn't u not know how fast your were going, and wouldn't u not how if you were passing 115mph? Something to think about. Hit me back!

Re: Where is the Governor?!

hit your top speed and then drive for a hour without stopping... if you travel a distance of more than 115miles than you are going faster...

lolz...

Re: Where is the Governor?!

i don't know about 240's but in the maxima's there is a pink wire with a blue stripe on it coming out of the ECU to remove the governer you cut the pink/blue wire and tape the ends off. the only downside is a never ending CEL. disconnecting the speedo works too.

Re: Where is the Governor?!

haha ok that is probably the least logical shot at this issue. first, he has an s13. you have a maxima. totally different cars from totally different years. his is 93 and your maxima looks like a 2002. the ecu wiring is probably totally different cause there's more to a maxima than a 240.

and nismo boy, what is it you're doing that requires you to drive more than 115mph??
