Wink 2001 GTI Stalling...

i just took my gti to get fixed...it's a 2001 with 90k on it. it was sputtering pretty severe and would die as soom as you would turn it on. before i had it towed it seemed as if the breaks weren't working as well. mr man replaced the O2 sensor and it ran fine for the day. the next day, it stalls when i step on the break and sputters when i press on the gas. my bro told me it could be a leak in the vaccum pump but mr man said he checked and couldn't find a leak. after it's warmed up for a while it will run smooth...this is the 3rd time i am bringing it in and mr man doesn't seem to have an answer...any suggestions?

I have this same problem....On cold starts or sitting for more than 3 hours....Start the car i sputters and dies...it will do this at least 3 times till it wil start on it's own and Idle really badly. At least untill the 60 sec. check is done...and it idles down and runs great...

I have also noticed that you can apply a little gas and can get it to run on the first start. I had it in to the dealer twice now and they replaced the Rear O2 and siad that shoud fix it, but that nest morning it did it again.

I am thinking it 's going to be fuel realated some one metioned a Air pump operates when the car is cold to help with fueling..Any thoughs on this or any one else with this problem..

THis is the 1.8T motor i'm talking about

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter recently? Check the throttle body and see if its dirty on the throttle plate.. also sometimes faulty maf sensors can cause symptoms like this.
