Question Urgent Please Help!
My head gasket went in my 1995 Sunfire. Took it to the garage... They fixed it, replacing the gasket, machining the head and replacing the bolts. The very next day I am driving on the highway, engine starts to knock, engine light comes on and the car stops running. After getting the darn thing towed back to mechanic, they are now telling me the crank sensor is bad and there is a tick in the engine. Is this related? because I had no problems with this car rattling, or anything else before they replaced the gasket, oh and the water pump too. (They replaced without telling me) Can somebody help me on this.. I am supposed to go to the mechanics tomorrow. So I would really like some help on this.
Urgent please help asap. |

Re: Question Urgent Please Help!
A bad crank sensor should not be related to the head problem. You didn't say what size engine you had but I doubt that there is a relationship. As far as the tick, that could be related but it depends on where it is coming from. The crank sensor is not hard to replace but it will take a little time. Make sure they did an oil change after they repaired the head as that could be what caused the tick in the first place.

It's a 2.2. The mechanic says it is coming from the head. He is trying to say that when the car stalled on the highway, it damaged the engine. I am no mechanic, so I have to trust in people telling me what has gone wrong. I just get a bad feeling he is trying to charge for things he has done and I don't want to be taken. I took the car in for the head gasket because I lost antifreeze. (right away) Just looking for as much knowledge as I can get before I go there today.

Re: Question Urgent Please Help!
I hope you didn't commit to a large repair again. If he did all the work you said he did then the head should be in excellent/brand new shape. If the noise is coming from the head then you have a bigger problem--bad mechanic syndrome.
When it stalled the only thing that should have happened was that the engine quit running unless you broke the timing chain/belt. If that is the case then the mechanic did not do his job correctly as it should have been replaced when he fixed the head the first time. Other than the CPS going bad the engine should have been almost as good as new. Let me know when you get the diagnosis from your repeat visit to the garage. |
