Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

None of my drivers controls work with the exception of the seat recline and Power Windows on a 1995 Aurora. I have swaped out the complete panel with a different one which includes, Seat Memory, Lumbar and Power locks but that did not fix anything. The passenger side power locks work fine but the Power seat does not move back and forward and back. I have checked the fuses (That I know of) and changed them out with no luck. I have checked the wires that run through the door and none were broken. Does anybody have a ideas where to check next

Check the wires inside the rubber boot (in the door jam). Pull back the rubber boot and I bet you will find some broken and/or frayed wires. Fix thoose wire and you should be all set.

I've recently purchased a 95 Aurora and had problems with the Lumbar support, the door open/ajar switch and the heated mirror (as well as the front wheel bearings, front control arm bushings, cracked radiator tank, and other various common Aurora problems :-) ). Here's what I found wrong:

There were two broken wires in the rubber boot between the door and the body of the car. One was easy to find, but one half of the second wire was no where to be found. Once I removed the complete door panel, I found the missing wire dangling on the inside. It appeared to have not been routed correctly and got caught on the power window mechanism. Fixing these wires took care of the door open/ajar switch and the heated mirror problem.

There were broken wires at a connector under the driver's seat. There is a large connector on the left side (looking from the rear seat). The wires coming into the connector from the rear side of the vehicle were fine, but the broken wires were on the side of the connector facing the front of the vehicle. To find the broken wires, I had to move the seat all the way forward to see them.

The wires appear to have gotten caught on some part of the seat that was moving and were ripped right out of the connector. To fix them, I had to remove the seat. You will need a T-55 Torx type bit to remove the two bolts from the rear of each seat rail. Then you can tip the seat forward to access the electrical and air connectors and remove them. The front of the seat rails lift out of slots in the floor pan once the seat is tipped far enough forward.

I used the factory service manual to figure out which wire went where in order to solder them back into place. I also used some heat-shrink to make sure that they were properly insulated. Once those repairs were made, I re-wrapped the wire harness with electrical tape, and re-fastened it to the bottom of the seat so that it couldn't get caught again. The lumbar support controls work fine now.

Since the rest of the seat motor controls are located on the same connector, it is possible that your problem is in the same area. I know the explanation was a little long-winded, but without the service manual, tracing these problems down can be a real pain.

Pulled the seat did not find any broken wires and also checked between the doors again with no broken wires? Does anybody have a idea where else I could check wires, fuses etc?

Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

HI...Me and remmans are having the exact same problem (Both mirrors have no power and the the seat does not move forward or backward) There are no broken wires in the loom (just cracked!, but they still have power going through them). I used a tester and tested the switch from the loom (in between the door and the body) and it responded fine. So the problem is going to be under the dash some where or in the car (not the door loom). please help me if you can. (if someone can tell me what color and thickness I should be looking for that would help)
Thanks.

Re: Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

I looked in the service manual at the electrical diagram for the driver's seat and here is what I have found out:

1 - There is a single circuit breaker for the whole circuit. If this was bad then the seat would not recline.
2 - There are two supply wires, both orange, which go to the seat switch on the door. Electrically they are connected to the same place on the switch. They probably used two supply wires to increase the available current without going with a really large wire. Anyway, the only failure mode with these wires is both broken, which would cause all of the seat controls to fail.
3 - There is a single ground wire for the seat controls. If there was a break in this wire, then all of the seat controls would fail.
4 - The only other connector for the seat controls is under the seat itself. The diagram in the service manual shows all connectors and the connection to the door controls and the one under the seat are the only ones.

The only way to resolve this is to measure the continuity between the door control wires and the connector under the seat. There are two wires for each motor, four motors in all. So you have to check eight wires in total.

Re: Re: Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

Does anybody know if the colors that are in the door panel (Power seat (forward and back) recline works. Seat Memory and power locks dont work from the drivers door match up to the wire color under the seat when checking for voltage etc. I have replaced the complete door panel with new controls and it still did not fix it so I am assuming it is wires? I can't find any broken wires in the door panel, between the door and body or under the seat. Ha anybody else ever seen anything like this?

Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

dear remmans,
since you checked the loom in the door and found nothing then the last thing to check is the power seat control box or modual.
1.Start by removing the driver seat by unscrewing the 4 screws that actually hold the seat to the moving brackets (the whole bracket is a bitch to remove especially if the seat does not move forward or backward!!)
2.before removing the seat make sure to unplug all wiring and air hoses.
3.Look for the aluminum square box or modual. unplug it(there are 3 motors that control the movment of the seat.Make sure you write down the colors of the plugs for each motor)
4.Use a phillips screw driver to free the box from a thin metal bracket and remove it.
if you have any questions call me at 574-232-8916 and ask for K.J

Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

I took a look in the service manual last night and found out that the silver box is used when you have the memory seat and memory mirror option. I should have asked that question in my earlier post when I said that the connections went from the door switches to the motors. If you have the memory seat option, then the wires go to the memory module first. Then there are wires from the memory module to the motors.

Re: Re: Drivers power locks, lumbar, seatl does not work

I do have the seat memory option on my Aurora. Since I have replaced the complete panel with all the switches and the same problem exists seat recline works but no seat forward to back, no power locks or seat memory.
