Theft Deterrent Module

Just had a new problem with my GP. It's a 2001 SE, 3.1. Dealer says it's got a bad theft deterrent module. He wants over $500.00 parts and labor. Does anyone know where this module is located? If so please be specific on where and what it looks like. I'd prefer to replace it myself. Also does anyone know where to get this module besides a dealership as they want over $200.00 for the part. Thanx in advance.

Re: Theft Deterrent Module

Are you referring to the body control module and does your car have remote entry ??

What kind of problem's are you having??

The BCM is located under the left side of the gauge cluster, to the left of the steering wheel.

Problem is engine will not crank but all electrics work. It has keyless remote entry. I was told by the dealer that it's the module located in the steering column.

Get a part # and I will beable to look it up and get a cheaper price then the dealer....only part I can think of would be an ignition switch harness.

he's talking about the pass key module in the steering column, I think $500 is a total rip off price though. His security light is most likely flashing also.

Larry,

Part number I got is 10335045 and a price of $225.99. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks again, Gregg BTW is it easy to access the steering column?

Re: Theft Deterrent Module

Hey I just got the news that I have same problem. 2001 pontiac grand prix gt, anti-theft deterrent module part # 10335045. The car starts for 3 seconds and then fuel line shuts down and car turns off. Security light blinks the entire time too. Original dealer told me that part/labor would be $600!!! I also found out this part is on NATIONAL BACKORDER right now, no GM dealer/warehouse has this part available, so there is no timetable for when it will be available. It has been a week now without a car and I just found out why no parts have been ordered yet. Had my car towed to new dealer that told me on backorder. Just thought I'd pass the word. If anyone has any info/help, greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!
