metro engine install and surge fix
bought a 93 geo metro the other day that had a pretty noisy knock and smoked like crazy. i drove it home and prayed on the way home i wouldn't pass a cop because the thing was smoking like mad, used almost a quart of oil in 7 miles. anyway...bought one of those JDM engines ($300 with 1 year warrenty) pulled old engine out, swapped the intake and exhaust manifold over and dropped the new engine in, took about 5 hours to swap everything over and get it running (i love my new car hoist :-) )
found easiest way is to pull the engine and tranny as a unit and split it on the floor. after i got it in and new engine fired up at part throttle it would rev up and down about 500 rpm all by itself, wouldn't do it at idle or past 1/2 throttle. also check engine light wasn't on. unplugged the TPS ( that kicked the check engine light on) and tried throttle again, was doggy but no more surge so i grabbed a spare TPS i had on another throttle body swapped it over and it runs perfect now. sure glad i have a ton of spare parts, they wanted over $90 for a new one. |

Way to go 'vette! Quick question, did you do your entire engine swapout in 5 hours? If it did you're a lot faster than I am. It usually takes me an entire weekend (including a new clutch kit).

Re: metro engine install and surge fix
pull old one out (1 1/2 hour)
transfer intake, exhaust and clutch to new one (45 minutes) install back in car (3 hours) times are rough guess, took just over 5 hours total |

I need a car hoist
I did mine with a craftsman wrench set, all by my lonesome, lol. But, I had to change everything under the hood, so it took me about a week(2 hrs/day for a week) That engine technically is light for an engine, but when you're lifting it into the engine compartment all by yourself, DAMN, is it heavy |
