converting 4wd to 2wd

my 4x4 stoped working a wile ago and i had some one look at it and they said i need a lot of work done. to get it working right and i really dont need 4wd. in this truck so i was wandering if i droped the front diff, front slipshaft, front half shafts "leave the pice of the half shaft in that gose threw the hub" and remove vacume switch for the front diff. would that efect anything in a bad way i plan on getting a 2wd trans and drive shaft anyway so dose that sound like it would work?

Re: converting 4wd to 2wd

Since this vehicle doesn't have a crossmember under the engine, I wonder if the front differential is critical to keep the frame rails from spreading. You might have to leave a gutted differential case in the vehicle for strength.

Re: converting 4wd to 2wd

if it dosent work, the why evn worry about it? are uyou planning to lower it? and if not, then it might be less workto go to the junkyard and rip a frame from underneath a 2-wheel drive
