2001 cbr F4I noise at 4500 to 5000 rpm

I am getting a loud sound, like the chain inside the engine at RPM's between 4500 to 5000. If I hold steady at 4500 the sound is there unless I go under 4500 or above 5000. This happens in any gear. I have just had a 24k mile tune up, as I have 22k on the bike, which I just purchased. The mechanics said that it was normal, but I thought I should get a couple more opinions. Thank you for your time.

The only thing that comes to mind is the timing chain. The F2 and F3 bikes had a automatic tensioner. I think the F4 models have a manual tensioner(which allows for better adjustment). It may be as simple as tightening the t-chain tensioner a bit.

your F4i needs a cam chain tensioner, it is an automatic adjusting type, supposedly there is a recall on them. if not they are a cheap component to purchase, only about 60 dollars. It is kinda tricky to get to to change out so if you have any doubts about doing it , take it to a motorcycle shop.

Re: 2001 cbr F4I noise at 4500 to 5000 rpm

u just need to redline it and then completely let off throttle and stay in gear. when u red line it your chain will expand to maximum and when u redline and let off the chain will decompress letting the cam chain tensioner get in that click to put more tension on it. other then that u gotta buy a manual cam chain tensioner which is easy to replace and set perfect, but yeah its recalled on 01 f4i's...

I found from another forum that the redline statment usually will never work. The chain only expands by 1/16th of an inch. I bought an aftermarket manual chain tensioner and now the bike is quiet as can be.
