I had the same smell from a 1994 Silverado. It turned out to be leaking head gasket, which allowed some coolant to enter the cylinder and be ignited. The rotten egg smell was actually burnt antifreeze. Hopefully not the same for you, but I would definitely make sure that there are no faults with your coolant system.

Lemme guess, the smell came just after you used the throttle a little bit higher right, like when merging into traffic?

Don't start swapping computers, you can't do that.

Re: rotten egg/burning smell

neither me or my girl friend notices the smell untill out of the vehical, its commen from the front, if i had it while getting on the gas i would assume burn off, and it verry well could be a leaking gasket, i have a problem with dissapearing antifreeze

Re: rotten egg/burning smell

A new cat will smell for a bit until it wears in.

A lot of brand new cars I have driven have that smell when you get out of it.

I know my new cat does. It will fade with time.

Re: rotten egg/burning smell

if youre losing coolant look at your hosesand pump. could just be a hole causing it to spill on engine. if youre not smelling it inside and your feet are dry its probably not your core(thats a good thing). check the oil on your dipstick and see if it is milky in color. that is a sign of head gasket.

Chances are you are just getting all the air spaces filled.

Fill the overflow bottle up and check the rad level.

It won't consume anymore likely.
