Service Engine Soon Light will not leave me alone

About 62K Miles and the thing keeps coming on. This is the third time I have had it in the dealership. Had the ignition Coils replaced, the plug wires, and the intake manafold gaskets replaced. I pick it up tonight and hope that these problems are fixed. I hear all these stories about guys and there GM cars and ways they ignore or dismiss this light, and my advice to you is that take it to a shop or dealer ASAP cause something could really be wrong with your Car and it needs to be looked at and or fixed.

The ergency of a check engine light depends on what is making it come on. Most of the time it is going to be a bad O2 sensor, emissions leak or EGR fault, or a missfire. With the former two, you may notice a decrease in milage, slightly hampered performance, or a rough idle. None of these conditions are detrimental for your engine, but you won't be able to pass emissions until you fix the problem. There are many autoparts stores (Autozone, Checker Autoparts, ect.) that can do an OBDII test for free. The drawback to this is their testing equipments lack of ability to zero in on the exact problem. Never-the-less I would recommend first checking with one of these places to get an idea of the problem, as it could be as simple as changing your gas cap. The code may be transmission related or a manufactures specific code, and then you would have to take it in, but if you want to save some coin, this might be the way to go in the future.

p.s. Why did they say they needed to replace the intake gasket?

They were leaking, I had the o2 sensor replaced as well no problems now is running great. the Gas cap is the first thing I checked thanks for the heads up.
