1987 camaro

ok well i want to get a new car because i hate my 4 banging rusted mustang....now my friend had a camaro and i liked it and i wanted to know if a 1987 camaro 5 speed 2.8 v6 w/ t tops was a good buy or not...i drove in it with him but never acually drove it...is there any good mods i can do..i don't mind not having tons of power...i would be very happy with say something like maybe 150-200 hp...all depending on weather or not there is a supercharger out there for the v6...

now i wanted to get the car and put an exhaust..ram intake if i could, cam, gears, throttle body, and some other little things here and there...is there anything else that would be good for the car....any mods that i should know about

i havn't yet bought the car but i think they look rather nice if you ask me...also is there any draw backs or anything to the car and good parts about it..pros cons anything

the 87 v6 only puts out 135 hp and 160 ft/lbs of torque.and they r really limited as far as mods go.

Re: 1987 camaro

I think with the 2.8 options are so limited you may want to consider an engine swap, but some members here have them so they'd probably know best

i don't mind engine swaps....i mean its a big enough engine bay so its no problem fitting something in there...but for right now seeing as how i am 17 i want the v6 for insurance and gas...also i want a little bit of a sleeper

Re: 1987 camaro

well, the 2.8 might get you lower insurance, and it might get you better gas mileage so long as its running at its best. But a sleeper???? sorry man, that 2.8 aint gonna challenge anything out there so long as its still in your 3600lbs camaro. Youll lose to minivans. You could look into swapping in a 4.3L V6, i heard someone talking about that, and ive seen those put out over 300hp naturaly asperated. not too shabby. Also, that 5 speed isnt really known for strength, put a big engine in front of it, and its gonna grenaid. the car would make a good, cheap commuter, but a threatening street car, very very very unlikely.

Re: 1987 camaro

i was thinking of a newer 3.4 L camaro engine...160 hp and 200 torque and i see there are plenty of mods out there for it...and well i wouldn't mind gettng that up to about 200 hp and then doing a new 5.7 swap if i could....is it possible to do a swap with a newer 93+ 5.7 engine...i know the 3.4 from a 93+ engine is possible because i have done the research..

Re: 1987 camaro

and just to add its better than a firggen 4 banger mustang...i drive that now and its really slow and i still can beat some hondas so as is i'm not to worried...plus...i will have a custom exhaust and shit like that done to make it have about 150 hp...it will be fine as a daily driver then and give me plenty of time to have another engine and redo that..maybe just say screw that and swap the 3.4 in there and do some mods to that first and plan on the 5.7 swap later

Re: 1987 camaro

Don't swap in the 3.4, if you're going that route go with a 3.8

Re: 1987 camaro

also plan ahead, if your lookin to do a V8 swap later on down the road, dont swap the V6 in now only to do the whole song and dance again, were not talkin about changin rims here. Computer controlled engine swaps are a very involved process. both expencive and time consuming. If youre gonna do an engine swap, do the one you really want, and dont worry about it again.

Re: 1987 camaro

lol...well i want a nice car so maybe i will swap in a 3.8 or 3.4...were would i get the 3.8 and is it just like the 3.4 swap...is that engine more powerful....and if i'm going to mi might as well just do the 3.8 engine swap and then keep that car and make it nice and then sell it for eather an older or newer camaro or mustang...sry but even with the shitty mustang i have now i still love them....but what do you think about that....just save up while i'm donig stuff to that camaro and buy another onethat has the v8 in it

The 3.4 actually had 200lbs...........

THe 3.8 is the same 3800 series motors that have been in GM cars for over 20 years now. But the 95 and up 3.8's had 200hp and 22lbs. They aren't slow cars. I give them respect, and if you want a sleeper there are more parts for the 3.8 than their are for th 3.4 so going faster will be easier.

Re: 1987 camaro

ok well if it will basicly just bolt on then yea that would be nice...200 hp and 225 torque would be nice...with a few mods and everything that a very respectable car....wouldn't mind that...wouldn't that at all
