Vacuum hoses.

I came outside this morning to find that 3 of my vacuum hoses had come off in the night. Last night was a colder than usual night where I live, but it still seems unlikely that they came off by themselves. I am just curious if anyone has ever heard of vacuum hoses just popping off in the night...

Re: Vacuum hoses.

Were these hoses located near the rear of the engine on the intake manifold? Look inside and see if they are oily. Hoses come off because of a possible misfire/backfire. Oily from faulty vacuum modulator and tranny fluid being sucked up thru the tiny tube. If oily replace vac modulator. As to reason why it came off when cold metal contacts in cold and the rubber not as much and because of oil, it slipped off.

Re: Re: Vacuum hoses.

All of the plugs were dry. There was no oil or transmission fluid on anything.

Re: Vacuum hoses.

Yes. I have had this problem many of times, even when they are dry. Its just a bad location that the 'einstein' engineers put on explorer manafolds. I just put small hose clamps on the end and it works just fine.

Re: Vacuum hoses.

rum runner:

Vac. modulator is on right side of tranny. You need to remove catalylic convertor to gain access to it. It's a pain. Be sure to use penetrating oil to loosen up the cat. convertor bolts. Also swipe a bit of new trans oil on the O-ring first. Loosen bolt and remove clip. Pull old vac. mos out and quickly stick new one in.
