new car or fix the old one???

I have only recently started to learn about cars, so please be patient with me
Right now I have a 96 nissan sentra, but she riddin rough which is not good since i live in NY ( snow :-( ) This past summer alone I have replaced my main exaust pipe, the alternater, two tires, the drive belt, a front brakes, plus the usual such as oil changes and flushing my heating core. Plus I will need a new muffler in about two weeks ( I can hear it startin to go on me).
What do you recomend that I look at in the car for a smoother ride? I'm not getting any shaking or jerking, but it almost feels like my auto trani is shifting to late so that i have no get up and go.
Should I fix up the car I have if she needs a lot of work, or should I look into getting a newer car?

newer car is always nicer. if you want a smooth ride, youre going to be paying a lot, not many cheap cars [new] come with a smooth suspension, but if you can find one, go for it. Personally, i would suggest a new Nissan Altima, Honda Accord, or Toyota Camry.
