Hey everyone, enthusiastic rider here. I just would like to know how everyone that has ever bought a new bike goes about doing it. I have been on the same 93 Katana 750 for the past 7 years and I am ready to take the plunge on getting a new bike. I should also mention that I just turned over 40,000 miles on it, I bought it with 14,700. I take religious care of it and do all my own maintainance. Anywho, I am not one who likes to hand my wallet over to someone and just let them take what they want, per se. What I mean is that I don't want to be at the mercy of the local dealer and pay MSRP plus "misc charges" for a new unit. I am looking at either a new 2005 GSXR1000 or Busa, I really haven't decided yet. If it was possible, I would like a new bike still in it's shipping crate from the factory, unassembled, shipped to my door. I don't want to pay an assembly fee, and I don't want to be charged any dealer overhead charges. Last, the dealer should not make a profit off of the shipping charges. I figure the cost of a GSXR1000 shipped should be about $10,200 or less. I've already been approved for up to a 15000 loan. Cash talks, BS walks. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a dealer that would be willing to do something like that? And on a side note, what does everyone think about the new styling of the new 1000, I think that the tail section is a little too wide, it looks misproportioned to me, but other than that I can deal with the pipe and the fairings.

ok i'm from the land of OZ but i bought a new bike in oct 03
down here we can't buy a dry bike unless the warranty is voided. therefore the dealer has to assemble it and put all the fluids in it and test it. when i bought i went to a couple of dealers and found one that was good to talk to and would give me a decent discount on aftermarket goodies. the price of my bike was fixed at all dealers so i didn't need to haggle

Re: How does everyone purchase their bike?
I doubt you are going to be able to find a dealer who will be legally able to follow your wishes. Like Blayne said, there are probably orders from Zuk or whatever make about the warranty requiring the bike to be assembled by a "professional" or something to that tune. It sucks, but find a dealer you feel comfortable dealing with, and talk to the sales guy. There isn't nearly as much "extra cost" added onto bikes as there is on cars. Sales people don't have much room to move in terms of their cost versus sales price. I know, you probably don't believe me, but that's the best I can do to help you.

Re: How does everyone purchase their bike?
you will never get a dealer to get rid of all those fees. i bought a new 2001 hayabusa from a delaer for 10,400.00 and buy the time it was out the door i spent 12000.00. they raped me 250.00 for a shipping fee and i forgot how much there dealer fee was but your best bet is to find a used low mileage bike that has already had its broken in dealer inspection. you will save a A%&load of money and you wont have to pamper it for 600 miles.
