prerunner!! how to build??

wantign to do a truck simular to this one and am wondering what is really involved in building it.

1)should i start with a 2wd or 4wd?
2)is that lifted or not?
3)what size tires are those?
4)should i go with a short bed or long bed?
5)how bad is the gas mileage on these trucks from 81-87?

1.) Most of those are 2wd, aren't they? I saw one on TV and it was rear wheel. May as well go with 4x4 tho... you can take it through mud that way.
2) It looks like it's lifted 2-4 inches, based on where the wheels are in relation to everything else.
3) 38.5"-40" based on the size relative to what I assume are 15" rims
4) That's really up to you. Personally, I'd go with a long box.
5) Mine gets 10-12 with close to stock size tires. However, I didn't notice any decrease in mileage when I went a bit bigger

Re: prerunner!! how to build??

Man that is a full on truck!! building this wld be a major project. There is about 20k in suspention parts & a fiberglass body aint cheap!A nice tube chassis.not free either.I would say 30k(just a guess)Plus a couple of months to do the work.I,d like to build one to but to do it right (long travel susp)it would be to rich for my blood!! I know some of the desert racers unlimited class trucks are worth 100k.

Re: prerunner!! how to build??

well im not wanting to to do a complete truck just a stock truck with the body panels (fenders) with a slight lift. not wanting to do a complete prerunner just a truck i can take offroad and have fun with.

Those shocks alone are more like $20,000 each for nice ones.

The tube work...Buy a tube bender and a whole bunch of dom and your set to go.

Can you do fiberglass? If so that psrt wouldn't be too hard. If not, I think this would be a complete waste of money in my opinion.

Re: prerunner!! how to build??

the truck will not behaving a long travel suspention like that truck and wont be having a tube chassis just the body panels, lift, and tires.

the fiberglass panels are made by autofab and almost are bolt on parts.
