2004 tire size
I just bought a 2004 4x4 4dr blazer a couple days ago. By the way it kicks a** compared to my s-10 i got rid of..... What is the biggest tire size i could put on there without rubbing or changing the shift points/speedo that much? I wasnt sure if the 2004 was any different from the older models so i figured i would ask. Thanks...

Re: 2004 tire size
You change the tires at all, you will have to calibrate the speedo.
Just leave the stock tires on it.

Re: 2004 tire size
Yes any size change should be followed by re calibrating the computer.
I've got 265/70/15 BF Goodrich Longtrail TAs they don't rub at all and take up most of the fender well, you could probably go just a little bigger than that, but I wouldn't. |

Re: 2004 tire size
Have to use a programmer or the GM Tech2 to change it.

The Tech 2 is about 2000 bux, plus another 2k for the software, a HPPIII is about 300 bux, or you can just ask the dealer to do it for about 50 bux...
To answer your original question, you can go to 31x10 without rubbing or 32x10.5 with minor rubbing

Re: 2004 tire size
I got a HPPIII off ebay for 60 bucks. I haven't really used it for anything, but look into that instead of paying a dealer $50.

Re: 2004 tire size
Yeah, you have to make sure it's cleared...
I got mine off ebay, but the seller actually lived 10 minutes away. If it wasn't cleared I know where she lives door and could set the situation straight. I've never met a woman with a custom blazer before. It was a new wierd experience. |

Re: 2004 tire size
fact is, there is no real point going to a bigger tire size.
You have to pay for new tires, the programming, installation for what, one inch more clearance?

Re: 2004 tire size
Actually you really don't have to reprogram the ECM... I certainly didn't when I went bigger, I'm only 2.1 mph off my originals I think..

Re: 2004 tire size
Anything other than the true speed and odometer is technically illegal and could be seen as fraud.

Re: 2004 tire size
I personally dont realy care if my speedo is of a couple mph. I went from 205/75/15 to 235/75/15 on my s-10 and that really didnt change the speedo that much at all. They rubbed a little though. I want bigger tires b/c it looks better. It needs to look like a 4x4 instead of a soccer mom suv and those 235's just dont cut it. Im also not really into the street look... If it was illegal for your speedo to be off then there would be so many people with older vehicles in jail right now. The worst that could happen is a speeding ticket and i seriously doubt a cop is gonna give me a ticket for doing 2mph over. That is if im doing the speed limit.
