transmission solenoid probs

My g/f has an 01 civic, 2 door, 70k+ on it. For a while now the check engine lite has been showing a transmission solenoid problem. I went to honda to find it in relation to the transmission. I unplugged the electrical connection, cleaned it and plugged it back together but no luck. It's not allowing the torque converter to lock up basically so the gas milage isn't quite what it could be. The worst part is there is no pattern to it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Anybody else ran into this.

It's either 740 or 741. I'm thinking 741. It's been a while since we checked it but it is definitely one of those.

Re: transmission solenoid probs

Probably a P0740. there isn't a 741. Thats the torque converter lockup. You have two options. Replace the torque converter and if the trans shifts fine and the light stays out many mile down the road then your ok or replace the trans.

There is actually a S/B on the meterial inside the converter coming apart and they tell you to replace it and flush the trans.

I'll look into it. I don't forsee me replacing the torque converter or the trans. Sounds like it might be trading time. You don't think it might be the solenoid acting up? Either way I'll see if I can't go to Honda and get a hold of that S/B.

Re: transmission solenoid probs

No the book doesn't even have a test proceedure for any solenoids regarding that code.

Maybe if you call American honda and bitch enough they will cover at least the cost of the tranny and you will just have to pay for the labor.
