So i pass by a friend's house to pick something up on the way home from work. I park my car outside his place. 15 minutes later, i leave and get back in my car to go home. I start the car. Signal to come out of the parking space. I start turning the wheel to the right when the horn sounds. What the? I let go of the wheel... I wasn't anywhere near the horn. Start again. Turn right, and the f*cking horn starts sounding again, non-stop. I switched the car off and started it again, had a look under the bonnet (i didnt know what i was looking for, but hey, im a guy so i had to do it). Point is the car wouldn't f*cking stop - BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone was looking at me like i was some kind of freak. And this is just getting out of the parking space. The way home, thankfully, was only about a 10 minute drive but i had to keep the wheel as straight as possible. I don't know how i got home without being beaten up as i kept beeping every 5 seconds and the guy in front of me was getting seriously pissed. As were a few pedestrians i scared the shit out of.

So now, every time i turn my wheel a few inches to the right, i'm treated to a nice, loud BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP, and then when i turn it back again to straight (through the 'beeping point') - BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

How in the name of f*ck do i fix this?

I did the same thing when I pulled apart my steering columb. Youll hyave to pull off the steering wheel, you should see a little metal ring around the shaft and if you look on your steering wheel there is a small wire that leads to a connection that looks like a small glass fuse holder, pull that connection apart and inside there is a spring with a small conntact at the end. What you want to do is make sure all the bolts are tight and that connection on the spring is not touching anything until you press the horn down. Believe me, I bring on enough road rage without beeping at everyone every 2 seconds. I don't know how but when i drive to work in the mornings i seem to be the only guy on the streets in a hurry

Oh 1 more thing, if you drive a chevy, once you pull off the nut that holds the steering wheel in place its very common for a little tiny pin on your hi/low beam switch to get knocked out of place. That pin is NOT mentioned in haynes service manuals, cost me $80 bucks to find that out

That happened on one of our trucks, it still isn't fixed, we just pulled the fuse!

That happened to my Corolla. It was only when the wheel was hard lock to the right, so I just left it. Was pretty amusing when friends were doing U turns or going around roundabouts.

It accidently happened when I was driving my cat to the vet and she almost jumped out the window.

Oz > i could probably live with it if it only happened on full lock, but it does when i turn to 1-2 o'clock.. too fucking embarrassing to drive... and i desperately need it tomorrow evening

Which is why you could disconnect the horn itself in the engine bay....
