need opinons on 98 gp gt

I will probably get it tommarow if the loan goes througth ok, but just wanted to know if people thougth this was a good deal. I can get a 1998 gp gt, fully loaded, leather seats and moonroof, with 50,022 miles on it for $6750, the only hitch is that it is a coupe, but I think its still worth it, I tested the car and it has plenty of power. As for upgrades, keeping in mind I still gotta pay for the car, what are some good simple DIY upgrades to try to get this maybe around 210-220hp? Also, has anyone tried these: http://www.lecryo.com/purepower.html are they better than iridium, and how about engine durability with these, also there was a site that I'm looking for that shows upgrade for gp. The site showed about the extra power drop in the fuse box, heated seat install, and other 3800 upgrade. Please let me know if you know this site.

Thanks

Sounds like a reasonable deal to me.........$67xx is a little high, butthe car has low miles. I'd buy it. If you haven't finalized the deal, check out http://www.edmunds.com/used/1998/pon...um1.1.pontiac* Maybe you can use the info as leverage to save a few more dollars. Good luck!

I've never tried, or heard of, those plugs. The iridiums are pretty tough to beat.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of good info out there about modding GTs. It's too bad too, the 3.8 is a great engine even without a blower. ClubGP is your best bet. Also, check to see if you have a local chapter of ClubGP........you will learn a ton about your car from other members.

You can buy a lot of performance stuff for your car used on ClubGP. You'll save a ton of money. If I were trying to get more HP out of a GT, I'd start with a CAI of FWI. Then I'd add a DHP or Intense performance PCM. Replace your stock thermostat with a 180* stat. Replace the u-bend in the exhaust......or better yet, get a cat back system. The cat backs are expensive though. Throttle body spacers keep your TB cooler which will help out. Headers would be nice but are expensive as hell. Roller rockers are helpful as well.

Hope this helps. Congratulations!!

Kelly says $5915 for a private party sale of a car in excellent condition. In good condition--$5435. So it may be a little high. NADA shows average trade-in at $6635. But if you like it and can be reasonably assured of its condition--go for it.

Thank for the help, I bought the car. It runs incredible but, I don't know if having the heat on alot does this but on a full tank highway and street driving I only get about 200 miles on a full tank. For a car with this many low miles, my 95 GA with 140,000 miles gives me that same gas ecconomy, I use shell gas (I believe 97 octane)? Also when the car is cold or I step on it hard the tranny shifts a little hard, but not enough to make the car shake, but it rarely ever does this, is this a symthom of a lead foot? If I was to get a programmer for this and adjust the shift points would this solve the little issue. Other than those two issues that car runs fine and has alot of pickup. I think the tranny issue is pure lead foot syndrome, because if I drive slow it never happens and you cant feel the car shift at all.

Also I will probably change the spark plugs and cables. I was thinking about the ones I mentioned above, iridiums, of 4 tipped platinums (bosch). Which one would be the best and what wires should I get?

Other than that the car is great, can't wait to do the led interior lighting and vinyl kit. btw I got it for $6500.

Thanks

I'd stay with A/C plugs. Found they are best.
Gas mileage is only as good as you let it. If you stay on it, mileage goes down. Drive like a little old lady for a while. With the price of gas today, you should anyhow. The nice thing about your car is you can use reg. I'm paying about $2.50 for Prem. but have no choice.

Good luck with the new toy.
