Engine Blew with only 318k

Its a 83 S10 Blazer 4x4 w/ 2.8l
Yep it finally happened, after almost 20 years and 318,000 miles the engine finally went out. I think the water pump went out and my temp gauge has been acting up lately so I didnt notice it until it died. Smoke started coming out of everywhere, I thought this thing was on fire. It broke down on my way home on a very busy street and could not get it to start again, luckily i was only a mile away from my house and I have triple A. It still runs but barely, I took it around the block and just stumbles and misses and dies in the middle of driving it. I guess it is telling me that is is finally time to put a small block in her. By the way, if anyone has a 350 engine and tranny im going to need one, and if anyone needs a 4x4 tranny and transfer case with basicly new clutch let me know. As for the motor ill probally junk it or sell the parts on ebay. I may also sell the wheels and tires that are on it too, they are pictured. Owell I guess it may get me around for another 10 years or so if I swap a 350 into her cause I hate to see it go but I hate the 2.8(slow piece of crap)

A pretty amazing Blazer. No rust and that early 2.8 lasted three times as long as most in that era. Might look around for a 3.1 or 3.4 Camaro V6 engine to replace the old one. Pretty simple swap from what I hear.

Re: Engine Blew with only 318k

yea i have kinda looked into the 3.1 3.4 swaps but would rather have the torque of the small block. Plus I have built one and threw it in a t-bucket to run on the dyno at my school and are pretty pleased on how well the perform and how easy they are to build. By the way, I have takin this thing down to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico numerous times and mexico has the crappiest gas in the world, by the second trip down there, the electrodes on my plugs where up inside the shell of the plug and it still ran like nothing was wrong with it. Hell of a truck. Oh yea and the only rust on it is on the upper part of the windshield but it just started to bubble up there about a year ago, hasnt broke through paint yet

Re: Engine Blew with only 318k

You lucked out and got a chevy tank there man.

My 85 s-10 blazer is on it's second re-built 2.8L with only 170,000 km, the early 2.8L are basicly crap motors to start with.

I hope that your 350 will last as long, and treat you as well as that poor under-powered motor

Re: Engine Blew with only 318k

drove it normal I live in a big city(almost 4million) so I need to get this thing up to speed quick to keep up with traffic, i have replaced the clutch 3 times about every 100k, just replaced the head gaskets about 4 months ago. I have had the heads redone once. I would just take good care of it, change oil every 2500. Replaced the carb twice because it has one of those piece of crap electronic feedbacks on it, its like $350 to replace em. So its been good to me.

Re: Engine Blew with only 318k

how much do you want for your carb? I could send you a money order tomorrow, if the price is reasonable.
