Sub Placement

Well I am in the process of making a fiberglass sub box. I was thinking about having one sub in normal and one with the mag. sticking out. Will this effect the sound any?

Re: Sub Placement

mount them both the same way unless they box is either sealed off between the two or in two seperate boxes, the subs hit at the same time, meaning one will be going up and the other going down (because they are inverted) nutralizing sound and pressure blah blah blah it wont be good unless it is in seperate boxes

Me two. See here is the problem. This is in a limited space. One sub can go down becuse the box is deep in that part, but can't stick up because it will hit my cover. The other the box is too shallow for my sub but it will fit inverted.

Re: Sub Placement

As long as the subs have different air chambers (separated), they should be okay. Otherwise it would be like you and a friend take a straw and both try to blow into it, at opposite ends, at the same time. It's not going to work very well.

Re: Sub Placement

would sealed or ported be better in our hatches? and without dynamat or something similar, does everything rattle like hell? im gonna be putting in a 12" alpine R within the next month if things work out for me (as in no more fucking parking tickets for $50)

any experiences you're willing to share would be awesome to hear, cuz im just worried that it'll sound like shit inside, and rattle everything outside. with just my alpine R speakers i have some bad rattling, including my passenger outide mirror, rear license plate, driver side 'door bumper' and lots of things inside obviously.

sorry to hijack, but this seemed like a decent place to ask this stuff.

Re: Sub Placement

ok ill give it a try, ported boxes, when done correctly sound very nice, however are verry large and verry expenceive, sealed boxes, in small confined spaces ie vehicals, sound just as good as a ported box, if not better because there is no air ruffle, a sealed box also takes less volume to produce the same sound, so a sealed box is smaller, and more efficent costly and size waise for your car

Totally true which is why I am making a fiberglass box. I have a ported box that takes my entire rear hatch up plus my cargo cover won't close. It sounds good but it way to large. My box cost $175 (well for normal peeps it does )

Anyways about the sectioned part. I knew that much, I was just wondering if they produced the same sound and all. I think I have figured out a way to get them both in right hopefully. We'll see, I will post up pics when I get it done.

Re: Sub Placement

as far as which way you mount them, no it doesnt matter, i had a set of mtx 6000 duel vc inverted in my fs chevy so that huge chrome magnet was sticking out for the world to see (hey ill give you one guess as to which one of my vehicals was broken into and had a system stolen out of it) and it sounded no different then mounted magnet down, if you can seal the two chambers off go right a head and do it, i think it will look awsome and should produce excellent sound

but wouldnt it be more like one person sucking thru the straw while the other blows? so the one sucking will extend more, meaning the one facing out would extend more kinda
