electical pain...

ok first my cars a 96 GA SE. i have this wierd ass electrical problem. first, i noticed that one day when i had my lights on, my left turn signal would stay on, not flash, but stay on, indicator, front and rear bulb, everything. when i turned my lights off, the indicator would go off, but if i turned my signal left, the dash lights and fog lights and both turn signal lights would flash. well turns out i had one blown fog light, well i replaced both fog lights (found a nice looking cheapset) and now when the lights are off everything is fine, but when they are on, i have no left turn, its the same as described above. ive replaced the multifunction switch (turn, headlight, hazard). That did nothing, next im gunna look at the flasher. but im wondering if anyone has any other ideas for me if it has nothing to do with the flasher. Thanks in advance.

An outside thought to look over your relays.

Re: electical pain...

It sounds as if there may be a short. I would take a look in the area of the left turn signal wires, it seems that your getting a feed back through that turn signal when you said you turn on the left turn and other lights began to flash you must be getting power back to the powersource [most likely a power wire making contact with a common ground]for those lights. Has anyone done any work on the car, if so they may have crossed a wire. When you start checking the wires look for a common ground wire for all of the other lights.

Electrical shorts are a pain in the butt, I used to install car accessories such as stereos, A/C, rear defrosters sunroofs etc. when it came to electrical shorts I found that when it seems that your at wits end the best thing to do is to step away for awhile and come back later. Don't let it get to you.

Good luck

Re: electical pain...

thanks for your input, i may just check some of the relays, and my car has the thermal ignition recall, and it appears as though someone has put a new ignition cylinder in it. but i have looked at all these wires and none are shorting out. Also i got my service manual and found the ground/power source, amd checked, but there fine as well. and yea i know what you mean about just stepping away for a while. i work in a gm dealership and we get some real pain in the ass problems. But thanks again
