Code P0170-Fuel trim malfunction- 97 kia sephia, Help?

1997, Kia Sephia 5 speed with 107,000 miles.. .has a code of P0170, which is a fuel trim malfunction(bank one). what is this? The car while driving ..will loose power..until I give it more gas and then the power comes back in. What could be causing this........ fuel pump going bad, fuel filter perhaps stopped up, Fuel injectors going bad? A ECM issue???

Sadly, I think it could be any one of these except maybe the fuel injectors(still a possibility, just not as likely in my experience)... Most commonly in cases like this, it's the fuel filter, So I would start there.

Can't help you one bit on the code thing though, but offen if it is the computer acting up, you can turn the car off briefly while it's still rolling, let the computer reset, then back on and see if the problem goes away for a bit. (had an old civic and used to do that)

Extra thought, check your air filter too.

The stalling and intermittent stalling at speeds, are caused by a bad distributor cap.

Why they result in weird codes, I don't know.

Replace the cap. And all wires, problems solved. No joke, it's as simple as that.

Also,

The fuel trim malfunction, can be caused by a bad O2 sensor.

If you are experiencing stalling, intermittent stallings at speed. Replace the cap and cables.

None of those... Engine Light On, and fuel trim failure, replace the 02 sensor.

The Bosch 02 sensors in the KIA are faulty. So are the replacements. A plague on anyone in California trying to pass smog in California.
